Carolyn Sue Lantz, 79, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Mission Viejo, California and Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 10:41 am Sunday, January 7, 2018 at her home in McKinney, Texas. Her daughter, Kim Slater, and her son, Mark Lantz, were by her side.
Born November 20, 1938 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Alvin & Eileen (Ketcham) Schneider, Sue (as she preferred to be called) grew up in Nauvoo before moving to California in her early ‘20s. She was married in 1961 to Rodger Lantz in Arcadia, California. Sue lived in California until 2012 before moving to Texas to be closer to her two children.
In addition to her children, Sue is survived by three grandchildren John Paul, Jake and Carolyn Slater of McKinney, Texas and several nieces and nephews and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Joanne, and one brother Richard (Duke).
Sue was a 1956 graduate of Nauvoo High School. She was a member of The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Riviera Club.
A graveside service will be held at a 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo, Illinois with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.
A memorial has been established in her memory at the City of Hope, a world leader in the research and treatment of cancer, diabetes, and other serious diseases. Founded in 1913, City of Hope is one of only 49 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
